usb-creator for Ubuntu 8.04.x LTS (Hardy)

The Ubuntu built-in tool usb-creator is a nice thing. But if you want to use a LTS (long time support) version, you will have to fallback to the Ubuntu 8.04. Unfortunately usb-creator was initialy added in version 8.10 (Intrepid). But only a few steps are required to use it:

  • install the two dependencies, if needed

sudo apt-get install syslinux

sudo apt-get install mtools

  • find a usb-creator binary package

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/i386/usb-creator

  • get a package with wget

wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18940109/usb-creator_0.1.10_all.deb

  • install the package

sudo dpkg -i usb-creator_0.1.10_all.deb

  • start the usb-creator

sudo usb-creator

  • just follow the steps on the gui and wait until all files are copied

  • reboot & run Ubuntu 8.04

If you are using the server edition and don't have a gui installed, you will have to install gnome for example. But if you are doing so, I'm sure you don't need usb-creator ;-)

Twitter - nonsense or useful?

Is twitter useful or just another useless new web 2.0 site?

I started two tests on twitter with quite stupid topics. Even so that they doesn't contain any useful informations or interesting stuff, it got some followers:

Well, the name should say everyting ;-) When a beer is needed or might be a good idea, it is updated.

This microblog is generated by a cronjob with a simple php script. The script contains over 400 sentences divided in three groups. With them over 200 millon stupid manager bullshit phrases are generated every 13 minutes.

Even trying hard to find something usefull, in my opinion, Twitter is crap. It seems to me, I could just watch tv commercials - but actually I'm skipping them...
